TBD Angels launches today to deliver value to the innovators of tomorrow
Recently (when folks used to be able to meet for a social lunch), a handful of Boston friends enjoyed some pizza and batted around ideas of paying it forward by sharing our collective experiences in leading companies and in providing financial backing to brilliant entrepreneurs building startups.
We griped that the traditional angel group model is investment-first, despite the fact that the value of experience and advice are often more impactful than the capital that these groups provide. While there are numerous individual angels who provide more than just commoditized capital, having many individual angels on a startup’s cap table can create future problems.
We were confident that we could pull together a bunch of experienced operators from our network into an angel investor group to address these issues. Out of this lunch date, TBD Angels was born.
Our mission is simple: Assemble a group of like-minded angel investors who thrive on sharing advice, guidance and capital with talented entrepreneurs. As recovering and current founders and operators across a wide range of verticals, we are passionate about helping early-stage ventures build their businesses into successful enterprises.
Over the past month, our group quickly grew to an evenly gender-balanced 20+ Boston & NYC angel investors and we quickly hit the ground running, sharing deal flow and engaging with five companies, one of which has already earned an investment from some of our investors and became our first portfolio company.
While the uncertainty of COVID-19 means that the future of politics, media, sports and the economy are TBD, we are confident that startups and angel investors are guaranteed to benefit from what we’re building at TBD Angels!
